The first word of the abstract is spelt wrong.
And is that a picture of a guy selling snakes by the side of the road? Awesome. But I won’t show my wife- she sees that we’ll be forever banned from venturing south of the Yellow River.

Indeed…misspellings are an issue with YM, unfortunately- the man who took the photo of the snake-seller (Christina can cover her eyes) is Jeff Crosby, not Jeff Crosb. Still working out the kinks I guess.

Hi, Matt,
Sorry that this post has nothing to do with your blog article (I did take a look at your magazine though). I certainly hope you read this post and respond to me.
Alright, quick introduction of me. I am Nuage, a native of Yunnan, born in Kunming, living in Boston, MA, USA. (yes, I am a Chinese then).
What do I want? I want a little help with a thin hope that I can somehow get some photos of Xi Shuang Ban Na (this place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xishuangbanna_Dai_Autonomous_Prefecture)
that showing how a certain piece of rain forest is being put down illegally to make way to rubber tree plantation that’s happening right now at the place.
Why the photos: there is a piece of news currently circulating on Chinese news websites about how corruption has led to the forest being burned down over night (here is the news if you read Chinese: http://news.sina.com.cn/c/2009-04-02/051017531162.shtml). The news is being picked up by people around the country. However, there isn’t a good photo that can capture even more people’s attention. I want to publicize the story in internet forums to get more people to pay attention to this, I think some photos that actually show the place and the situation would be great.
Why do I write to you then?
Well, I am not in China now, so I can’t get the photos myself.
Frankly, I don’t know Chinese in Yunnan that travels much. Although I am also looking for help from them.
My logic is this: expas like to travel, expas travel with cameras, you are an expa, and you may know a community of expas in Yunnan or at least you know where to find them, and at this moment, there must be some of them traveling in Xishubannan, so maybe they can snap some photos for me.
Why should you care to help me:
I love Yunnan, you love Yunnan. And all you need to do is to help me put the message out there or make a referral, so someone who is traveling in XSBN or will be traveling in XSBN can make a little detour, and send me some photos. You don’t have to get super involved if you don’t want to.
This is important, it’s not just about a few trees, it’s about vast deforestation happening throughout many years, it’s about corruption, it’s about local ethnic people being underrepresented, it’s about a few individual taking huge profits leaving the nature and the culture devastated, it’s about a Kunming activist being harrassed by police…ok, ok, sorry, if you think this is too much.
I am not being extreme, I am very hopeful that this will get improved. That’s why I want people to pay more attention to this.
So help me. I will explain to you or any one more if you need any more information, just write to my email nuagesw@gmail.com.
Also let me know if you have even better ideas for me to try.
Thank you very much for you time.
Sincerely and bold,
NuageSW

Some advice on the website:
It doesnt work on my browser (Safari 3.2). When I navigate around the page, links either go to nearly empty pages, or I get weird jumblings of images with text on them, or a blank page with the content on the right, but extending well beyond my window.
